BiographyHistory

Actor and occasional director.

Hugh Keays-Byrne arrived in Australia with the Royal Shakespeare Company's tour of A Midsummer Night's Dream in 1973, and remained at the end of the tour. For Australian and international film audiences, he was best known as the villain of both the first Mad Max film ('Toecutter') and of the critically acclaimed fourth instalment, Mad Max : Fury Road ('Immortan Joe').

He appeared in a range of other films and television series, including Stone, The Man from Hong Kong, Mad Dog Morgan, Kangaroo, and Farscape.
