AbstractHistoryArchive Description

A magazine aimed at women, Pictorial Review was founded by German immigrant William Paul Ahnelt in 1899 as a means of showcasing dress patterns from his American Fashion Company. It covered fashion, style, homemaking, and anything the editors thought women needed to know about, and also included short fiction. In 1937 it absorbed another women's magazine The Delineator before succumbing to competition and the effects of the Depression two years later.
