  • Pulp Fiction research focuses on making more visible Australia's tradition of romance, crime, western, science, horror, sports fiction, comics, and radio serials, especially the work of some of the most successful and prolific authors. The project primarily maps Australia's popular publishing industry between 1939 and 1959.

    Led by Dr Toni Johnson-Woods, the Pulp Fiction project is a part of AustLit's wider focus on popular fiction and storytelling in Australia.

    Data enhancement outcomes

    Thousands of bibliographical records have been added to AustLit, covering original publications, translations, reprints, cover art and artists details, and omnibus editions. Biographical details have been added to more than 100 authors and cover artists. Cover art from more than 1,500 Carter Brown book covers can be viewed in the UQ eSpace repository.
