A reboot of the original series, first produced in 1994. The reboot was announced by Netflix in December 2020, and follows attempts by Dutch production company NewBe (partnering with Netflix and FremantleMedia on the reboot) to commission a contemporary remake of the series a year earlier. NewBe secured worldwide English-language rights to the show some time after the death of creator Ben Gannon in 2007 (Sources: https://www.if.com.au/cast-revealed-for-netflixs-heartbreak-high/; https://www.if.com.au/contemporary-remake-of-heartbreak-high-on-offer/).
