AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'The story of Pastures New concerns a modest Australian station run by a man and his wife. Two Polish New Australians arrive to help out with the station work. Stanislaus Vickiewicz is a nervous, secretive person. He describes himself as a student, has obviously had an unhappy European past, but is anxious to learn and be useful on the station. His pretty wife, Marianka is religious, sensitive, and in tensely aware of her subordinate position. The station owner is soon attracted by her. His own wife is due to have a baby and notices the growing affinity with alarm.'
