About the poem:
This poem came out of a discussion between Ross Bolleter, pianist and ruined piano maestro, and myself about a concept he termed the ‘Principle of Limitation’ referring to the idea that a ‘ruined piano’ can be played as long as you immerse yourself completely in the instrument you have in front of you and to all its elements, ruined and otherwise.
Ironically this principle is not an imposition of limits per se, but an opening up of the decaying instrument to more and more possibilities beyond its original design.
