  • Who and Where are the Kuku-Yalanji People?

    Under development ...

    Kuku-Yalanji land (AIATSIS code Y78) extends from the Mossman River in the south to the Annan River in the north, bordered by the Pacific Ocean in the east and extending inland to presumably just west of Mt Mulgrave (Patz 2002:6). Head of Palmer River, cast from Palmerville to Mount Lukin; south and west of the Dividing Range to upper Mitchell River; at Maytown; east to Byerstown (Tindale 1974).


    AustLit records:

    John Harding: co-founder of the Ilbijerri Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Theatre Co-op in Melbourne, who first produced play was Harding's Up the Road.

    Steven Oliver: dancer, actor, and singer. One of the creative forces behind Black Comedy, Oliver scripted his first play in 2016.

    Cathy Freeman: Australian sprinter and gold medallist, who wrote her autobiography in 2003.

    Marlene Cummins: jazz blues singer and saxophonist, and focal point of Rachel Perkins' Black Panther Woman.

    John Hartley: works on reclaiming ancestral values, beliefs and practices, and Yalanji language and storytelling.

    Rona Scherer: photographic artist and ceramicist, who also publishes poetry and essays.

    Vernon Ah Kee: contemporary artist, whose work includes large-scale drawing of his ancestors and text-based installations.
