BiographyHistory

Born in Bratislava in what was then Czechoslovakia, Olga Horak was transported by the occupying Nazi regime first to Auschwitz (in 1944) and then to Bergen-Belsen (in 1945). Her sister Judith was murdered in Auschwitz in 1942, and her father Hugo, also in Auschwitz, in 1944. Her mother, Piroska, survived Belsen with Olga, but died the morning after its liberation. Olga migrated to Australia in 1949 with her husband John: together, they established a garment business called Hibodress.
