'Well-known short story author, and former Canberra Speculative Fiction Guild (CSFG) president, Leife Shallcross, was awarded Best Young Adult Short Story at the 2016 Aurealis Awards for her tale ‘Pretty Jennie Greenteeth’. But don’t make the mistake of thinking Leife limits herself to short fiction. Hodderscape UK recently announced they had acquired Leife’s debut novel The Beast’s Heart, a Beauty and the Beast re-telling from the perspective of the beast. Hot on the heels of this great news, the CSFG announced Leife would be co-editing its next anthology: A Hand of Knaves. As a writer whose star is steeply on the rise, I thought I’d better have a chat with her and discover the secret of her success.'
