BiographyHistory

Landholder and barrister. Smith arrived in Van Diemen's Land in 1832, and shortly bought 28,000 acres of land near Ross. He was active in local politics, social reform, philanthropy, and the Anglican Church. He left for Europe in 1877, and died in Nice in 1880.
