BiographyHistory

Member of the Warumpi Band: some of the works he wrote for the band have been published as picture books.

George Rrurrambu was from Elcho Island in Arnhem Land, and became an icon of Aboriginal rock music, and well-known lead singer of the Warumpi Band in the 1970s. Rrurrambu was the first to sing rock'n'roll music in Aboriginal languages, and was sometimes called 'the black Mick Jagger' and 'the Aboriginal Bon Scott'.

Throughout his musical career, Rrurrambu was active in promoting reconciliation and cross-cultural understanding between Australians. In his later years, he returned to traditional life.
