Set in a country town. Romance between the local doctor, and Nell, the daughter of a local resident who has a grudge against him over a court case; and between the doctor's cousin - an artist, and Mab, Nell's beautiful cousin from Melbourne who loves painting. Includes meeting at an evening party and the horse races. The only obstacle, Mab's father, is easily won over. Mab has the social audacity and manoeovres of a city girl. (PB)
