1 y separately published work icon Short and Sometimes Sweet Mary Jenkins , Port Adelaide : Ginninderra Press , 2020 19796410 2020 selected work poetry 'Short & Sometimes Sweet reflects a long and varied life: from childhood memories of the Second World War to the travails and pleasures of old age. Born in England in the Great Depression years, Mary Jenkins’s education was basic, interrupted by the war and her evacuation to Wales. Gough Whitlam gave Mary her life-changing educational opportunities. She completed a PhD in Tasmania in her seventies after living and travelling in France, Switzerland and Sweden. Her varied life experiences include work as an au pair, a policewoman, a matrimonial court officer, as a model, a casual university lecturer, an associate builder in Cohousing and a home builder…amongst other things.' (Publication summary)
1 y separately published work icon Short and Not Always Sweet Mary Jenkins , Hobart : A Published Event , 2018 19051501 2018 selected work poetry prose

'Short & Not Always Sweet reflects a lifetime of experiences through poetry and prose, of an 85 year-old woman who never intended to say, ‘if only …’ It was Gough Whitlam who gave Mary Jenkins a chance to be educated. She was in her 70s when she completed a PhD. This followed working as a model and brothel investigator in London; an au-pair in France; lover and mother in Sweden; associate builder: Cohousing, Hobart; a casual lecturer; and, finally, a home builder in Cygnet, Tasmania. These experiences have all affected her life and writing.'
