1 A Bureau of Memories Ventura (fl. 1938) , 1938 single work short story
— Appears in: The Queenslander , 19 January 1938; (p. 17,41)
A mother, Carol, remembers her childhood friend, Monica, who had left school because of her parents' poverty. Monica, an intelligent girl, gave up everything in the effort to obtain a better life for her siblings. She finally married a kind, rich, older man who loved her. A year later she died in childbirth, leaving her daughter in the care of her friend Carol. Carol brought up the child with love, and waited for her to show the brilliance of her mother. However, the child chose farm life, and Carol realised that she must allow the child to choose her own path.
