A London banker's son, already once indebted for gambling, is accused of theft from his father's office and banished to Australia. Finally his innocence is proven but his father's letter requesting him to return falls into the hands of a fellow shepherd and friend on the North Queensland sheep station where they work. His 'friend's impersonation of him fools all but the youth's betrothed - and he finally returns to her on his father's deathbed. (PB)

An ex-station-hand travelling to Sydney encounters a circus in a country town. Drinking with the 'Italian' circus proprietor and the clown he learns of the latter's unhappy marriage in England. Inheriting property from an uncle he foolishly marries a common spendthrift musician, finally eloping with her handsome music teacher when she has spent all her husband's money. They meet again, both with different circuses on the Continent, where he shoots her purported husband in revenge. Finally, weary of women, his circus comes to Australia and he plays the tragic clown. A swagman catches a lift with a travelling bush hawker and when the latter refuses to join his criminal schemes trusses him up to rob him and hang him. Somehow the swagman gets caught in his own noose and dies a terrible death while the hawker is unable to move.
