— Appears in: Ngoonjook , September no. 7 1992; (p. 22-30) To help you understand my own cultural values and how they differ from the traditional Aboriginal today, let me first introduce myself. My name is William (Billy) James King. I was born 28th January 1940. I am of mixed Aboriginal, Chinese and European descent. As you can see from my birth date I am 51 years of age. I have had a more European upbringing than traditional Aboriginal. I am by Australian law and guidelines legally an Australian Aboriginal. I have lived through an interesting phase in Australian history and was unaware of what was going on around me, it was a case of 'not having a need to know'.
