Translation of the French play Le Docteur Noir by Anicet-Bourgeois and Dumanoir.

There were two translations into English of this French drama - one by Bridgeman and another by Thomas Archer. It is probable that the version produced in Sydney in 1868 was the Bridgeman translation.

The Black Doctor is included in AustLit because it was produced in Australian theatres during the colonial era.
