A truncated and unformatted biographical extract follows: Songwriter and playwright Jimmy Chi was presented with the Red Ochre Award at a ceremony in his hometown of Broome in 1997. He studied engineering in Perth, but the cultural dislocation caused mental problems and he abandoned engineering for music. An extraordinary creative talent, Chi wrote in collaboration with his band Kuckles, the Pigram Brothers and friends, the award-winning musicals Bran Nue Dae and 'Corrugation Road.'
