This is a growing map of the localities described by Joseph Furphy in Such is Life, Rigby's Romance, and The Buln-Buln and the Brolga, the three novels that emerged out of the typescript he completed in 1898.

When one considers that a bullock team travelled at a speed of only three miles and hour (at best), the distances between localities become even more considerable. Add to this the scarcity of food and water for team and driver, one can start to imagine the challenges and loneliness of anyone travelling through Furphy's Riverina in the nineteenth century.
