AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Three sisters find their fortunes suddenly and dramatically changed. By agreement with their father, if the three manage living together and running a hotel in the Bondi region of Sydney for a year, the hotel will be theirs.

The series was not a success with reviewers or viewers, and the Canberra Times later described it as 'acclaimed almost universally as a disaster of epic proportions' (David Vine, 'Fact, Fantasy, and the TV Hype-artist', Canberra Times, 22 August 1988, p.6).

Notes

  • From the Canberra Times:

'ABC's first long-running series, to be produced since the popular Bellbird finished in 1977 after 10 years, will begin its run on Wednesday night, April 27, at 8.30pm. Promised last year by managing director David Hill and head of drama Sandra Levy as part of the initiative to increase the net work's Australian drama output to 100 hours for 1988, The Last Resort has a definite end in sight. It is not intended as an open-ended serial, but is a self-contained "maxi-series" of 30 one-hour episodes to screen weekly throughout the year.' (Joan Morris, 'Bird's Eye View', Canberra Times, 10 April 1988, p.22.)
