McDonald-Armstrong (1990): 20 comments:'Mary may have erred in allowing the printers to select which manuscripts would make up the format of the book. Some of the poems are not truly representative of her talent. The printers were not qualified to select the best of her work; and so presented the more genteel or conventional poems, omitting anything more forceful and controversial.'
