The reviewer describes Dinkinbar as Australian in plot and scenery describing how the English characters are changed by their experiences in the Australian bush.

The reviewer says of Sprays of Language in Leaf and Flower that what the book of poems 'gains in feeling it loses in technique'.

The reviewer introduces Tales of the Riverine and Half-Crown Bob as short stories which are mainly about the doings of the Darling River steamboats and their crews. It is described as strongly written with a touch of pathos and satire.
