Notes

  • This was one of number of witty satirical items of Kendall's which appeared in 'The Meddler' column in the Sydney Mail of 16 August, 1879. Kendall referred to the items in a letter to his friend Peter Fagan, dated 22 August, 1979 (ML 3775/9-11). In 'The Meddler' column the poem is fictitiously attributed to the Sydney Exhibition contractor John Young, who is in effect the butt of its satire.
