Jason Steger reports on Alex Miller's contention that money used to establish the Prime Minister's Literary Awards could be more effectively directed to the Miles Franklin Literary Award, thereby raising the profile of the latter award.

Miller's argument is further taken up in the Age of 23 April 2010 in a column headed 'Writer No Crusader but Firm on Book Prize'.
