  • According to the accompanying note [in the People's Advocate], the subject of this work was 'the first civic Fancy Ball' given by the Mayor of Sydney, James Wilshire, in 1844.
  • The first line of this extract is line eleven in verse eight of The Mayor's Fancy Ball : Canto the Third, part of the sequence The Fancy Ball. Other parts of The Fancy Ball may appear in this extract.
