Gail had been deeply fond of her cousin Sandra, and was heartbroken when she died. Heartbroken and furiously angry. For Sandra had, she was convinced, died of a broken heart herself after having been deserted by Kane Farrell, the father of her small daughter. Gail vowed that Kane should pay for his misdoings, and so she set off for his sheep station in the Australian Outback to confront him with his daughter and see that he took responsibility for her.
