  • Editor's note: The following lines commemorate one of the most heroic episodes of modern warfare, viz., the dash, during the Matabele war, made by Captain Wilson's patrol to try and capture the fugitive King Lo Bengula. One of the 34 was the son of Colonel Watson, of Northdown, Tasmania.
