AbstractHistoryArchive Description
This study offers a description of the federal legislative provisions and machinery of censorship in Australia. The principal Australian novels affected by censorship are identified, then discussed in terms of their publication and critical reception. Such novels include works by authors such as Jean Devanny, Robert Shaw, Norman Lindsay, and Christina Stead, although particular emphasis is given to Lindsay's censored books. Appendices include a selection of illustrations, book covers and cartoons.
