Author's/Editor's note on Darboven: German artist, born 1941, whose work consists entirely of handwriting. The travelling exhibition, Graphics of the 70s: Federal Republic of Germany, which toured Australia in the late 1980s, includes five of her works, four of them lined pages covered in pencil. In 1990 the upstairs exhibition at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin (West) featured large-format works by Darboven consisting of calendar pages apparently overwritten in red felt pen.
