AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'Claudine, the daughter of a retired ship's captain, meets and is attracted to Mark Stafford, a young lieutenant who visits her father's house near Southampton, England. A gypsy's warnings, her father's death, a false man, and emigration to Australia intervene before they can be married. This is a disjointed tale with gypsies transferred to Australia, passages of squatting reminiscences, and an unexplained villain who menaces Claudine's life and is killed with a band of bushrangers.'
