(p. 195-205)Literature has frequently taken a leading position in the re-examination of the collective memory, and Australian writer Gary Crew's novel Strange Objects holds a particularly important place in re-exam-ining Australia's contact history. More importantly, however, the novel, which is written for a young adult audience, explores reading processes. In doing so, it reasserts the centrality of the adolescent reader in the production of meaning.
