AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'The matter of The Message comprises the growth of Little-Englandism, opposition to Dominion fiscal policy and the neglect of imperial defence. The story concerns the career of a rising English journalist who is influenced by a South African woman. In the middle part a German invasion of England takes place; it is wiped out through the rousing message of Canadian missionaries of Empire. Dawson's faith is that British politics should be reinforced by Dominion influence.' (E. Morris Miller, Australian Literature II, 672)
