The Westminster Gazette includes 'A Socety Crime' under 'Books received today: 'BORLASE, SKIPP. "A Society Crime." (Danvers and Co.) 6d. Christmas number of the Danvers Novels. (Westminster Gazette. December 3, 1902: 12).
The Highland News notes,
"A Society Crime," by Skipp Borlase, author of "A Police Minister," &c. (London: C. Danvers & Co., 82 New Bond Street. Price 6d.) is a well-written deeply-engrossing story. From introduction to conclusion the reader is carried, now and again hurried, over the lines, the interest never being allowed to flag by the way. In our den we have read it, enjoyed it, and now wish others to share it with us. Truly the Messrs. Danvers are to be complimented on putting before the public a class of novel of an entirely unique character. To do so in these days when the press is daily producing such a bewildering variety of books and magazines is to have accomplished something. (Highland News [Inverness]. December 13, 1902: 2 col 2.)
The Somerset Guardian and Radstock Observer notes that 'The Christmas number of "The Danvers Novels," "A Society Crime," by J. Skipp Borlase, is interesting locally, as the heroine lived in Bathwick hill, and the crime was committed at Bath Theatre. (C. Danvers and Co.) (Somerset Guardian and Radstock Observer.
