AbstractHistoryArchive Description
Angel Baby is a tragi-comedy of love, loss, and mental illness. Protagonists Kate and Harry are outpatients at a psychiatric clinic: Kate believes that her guardian angel, Astral, is sending her messages through the television game show Wheel of Fortune and Harry is schizophrenic. After they meet and fall in love, Kate and Harry move away from their carers and attempt to face their adversities together. However, their new-found independence begins to draw them into an intense and emotion-driven world of their own. Over-confidence eventually leads to them stopping their medication, which is when the real struggle begins.

review
— Appears in: Sydney Morning Herald , 26 October 1995; (p. 16)'EVERYTHING about Angel Baby gets you where it hurts. Original and compelling, the film has the bald, alarming beauty of a Sylvia Plath poem, only warmer and without the overtly suicidal intensity. It's also often very funny. This extraordinary debut feature from US-trained young Australian director Michael Rymer is one of those rare films where you come out with a great deal more than when you walked in.' (Introduction)
