Notes

  • The Queenslander advised: 'The correspondent to whom we are indebted for the above poem informs us that it is a copy of a manuscript found among the effects of a man whose death occurred last year at Winton under tragic circumstances.'

The Bulletin asked readers: 'Can anyone tell The Bulletin the name of the author of the above?'

Stable and Kirwood later noted: 'This poem was found among the effects of a swagman who died in the bush in the West of Queensland'.
