  • Dedication: To the Countess of Portsmouth, in memory of pleasant hours at Eggesford, this book is, with her permission, dedicated.

    The dedication includes a poem 'At Eggesford, Easter 1885'.

  • Author's note: To the Reader....The poems entitled 'Across the Sea' were written in or of my adopted country - Australia, and my interesting 'voyage home,' as all Australians patriotically call it, by way of the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea....
