Alick Jackomos was the son of Greek migrant parents and grew up in Melbourne during the Great Depression. After surviving war service, he became a travelling tent wrestler with Jimmy Sharman's boxing troupe. In 1951 Jackomos married Merle Morgan (q.v.) of Cummeragunja. He was was a longtime friend of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, and for over twenty-two years he served as a public servant in Aboriginal Affairs. Jackomos was the only non-Aboriginal person to be made a Life Member of the Aborigines Advancement League.

In 1977 Jackomos was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to study economic, social and community programs in Black and Indian communities in the United States.
