Ruth Thomas completed a Masters degree at the School of English, Journalism and European Languages, University of Tasmania in 2008. Her thesis, titled 'According to the fair play of the world let me have audience: Reading Convict Life-Narratives of Van Diemen's Land' examined the material and narrative forms of eighteen autobiographical accounts of transportation and read these texts as sites of agency and polvocalism.
