BiographyHistory

A Jamaican slave, Simpson arrived in Hobart on board the Jupiter in 1833. He had been convicted the previous year for 'Seditious Language, Conspiracy & Rebellion' for his part in Jamaica's Baptist War and sentenced to death, but later had his conviction commuted to life transportation. Simpson received his ticket-of-leave in 1838, a conditional pardon in 1840 and a free pardon in 1841.
