'L'Optimistic parfait is a twenty-mlnute portrait of a foreman of a small factory, rough and uncultured, squandering his earnings on drink and dog-racing, but with a vein of humanity and a sense of humor. It is this that makes him, when faced with the loss of his employment, send the proceeds of a big gambling win to his wife — to show he has turned over a new leaf as well as in the hope of being assisted by her family.'
