BiographyHistory

John Henry Parker, nephew of eminent Oxford bookseller and publisher Joseph Parker, inherited his uncle's business, which included a partnership in the Oxford University Press, in 1832. He published in Oxford as J. H. Parker until his son James joined him in 1856 and the firm became John Henry and James Parker. James took over in 1866 and published as James Parker and Company until 1900, when the company went out of business.

The firm published mainly religious tracts and theology, serious history and textbooks, and books on archaelogy and architectural history, some of which John Parker wrote himself.
