BiographyHistory

Romayne Weare was born and grew up in Herberton, on the Atherton Tablelands in North Queensland. She was educated at Mt Garnet State Primary School and the Ravenshoe State High School. A descendant of the Barbarrum tribe on her mother's side and the Kirrama tribe on her father's side, as a child Romayne loved to gather around her elders and listen with great anticpation about stories surrounding the Dreaming.

An avid reader and writer of children's literature, in 2001 Romayne won an in-kind Encouragement Award from the Inaugural Black Ink Writing and Illustrating Awards to further assist her development of writing and illustration.
