The Nine Club was formed in 1974 by Helen Weller on the recommendation of John Harper-Nelson as a "non-aligned" editorial committee for the purpose of producing the magazine Artlook. John Harper-Nelson served as its Chairman. Other members included John McIlwraith, Kirwan Ward, Helen Weller, Collin O'Brien, Tom Gibbons, D'Arcy Ryan, Nicholas Hasluck and Cedric Baxter.
