BiographyHistory

The Black Library is a division of BL Publishing, itself a division of Games Workshop, the UK-based games company that publishes Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 materials.

The Black Library publishes novels, art books, background books, and graphic novels set in the Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 universe.

BL Publishing also includes Black Flame (science fiction and horror novels based on third-party properties) and Warhammer Historical Wargames (historical wargaming materials).

Black Library publications are original stories based on playable armies from the world of Warhammer 40,000 and its spin-offs. Games Workshop's magazine (White Dwarf) and website then offer characters, game scenarios, and rules for campaigns set within these stories. The result is a complex fusion of tabeltop gaming and speculative fiction.
