BiographyHistory

According to a biography which appeared in the August 1946 issue of the Australian Journal, Mr. A. J. King was born in New South Wales. He joined the gold rush to Western Australia in his early twenties and worked in mines in various parts of the State, including Southern Cross, Broad Arrow, Kanowna and Boulder. In 1907 he became general manager of the Harden Gold Mine, N.S.W. and in 1909 was admitted a member of the Australian Institute of Mining Engineers. In 1913, Mr King went to Malaysia as general manager of Kampong Kannunting Tin Dredging Ltd., continuing in that capacity until 1920, when he floated Nawng Pet Tin Ltd., of which he became Chairman of Directors. During the Japanese occupation of South East Asia he returned to Australia. (p. 720)
