Nick and his friend Michael undertake a diamond heist in Sierra Leone, but things go wrong and Michael is left behind. Although Nick manages to get away, he is arrested for diamond smuggling upon his return to Australia. The authorities do not find the most precious diamond, however. Nick is able to extract it from its hiding place inside him once he is in prison, and hides the diamond in his prison cell. Meanwhile, the people he stole the diamond from manage to get to him inside the prison, and he is blinded as punishment. Fifteen years later, he is free but lives alone and forgotten. Nick's blindness has now become symbolic of his regret for leaving Michael behind. He has lived in this world for so long that he is afraid to see the 'light'. That is, until the day he discovers that he has cancer. Now forced to face the remorse for his friend Michael, Nick sets out to right his wrongs. He decides to finish what he started, to get back the diamond he once hid in the prison cell.
