BiographyHistory

CreateSpace is a self-publishing platform owned and operated by Amazon.

CreateSpace emerged from CustomFlix (a DVD on demand company, launched in 2002). and BookSurge (a self-publishing, on-demand printing, and book-distribution company launched in 2000).

In 2005, BookSurge and CustomFlix were both acquired by Amazon.com. CustomFlix's name was changed to CreateSpace in 2007, and CreateSpace and BookSurge were merged under the CreateSpace name in 2009.

In August 2018, Amazon announced it would be merging CreateSpace and Amazon's own system, Kindle Direct Publishing (KSP), with CreateSpace authors moving their books to KDP.
