'The Bonesetter’s Fee and Other Stories brings light to the growing pains of the migrant experience. Murphy explores themes of identity, breathing life into superstition and myth. The collection encapsulates how one’s heritage and history can influence their personhood, and how human connection and understanding links us together. With each story unique, Murphy links her cultural legends and customs to modern Australian society. The Bonesetter’s Fee and Other Stories is a captivating and inspiring collection of work, weaving a little bit of mystery into the reader’s life.' (Publication summary)

— Review of Taboo Kim Scott , 2017 single work novel

'Kim Scott's Taboo is a story about beginnings and endings. This novel reminds the reader of the circularity of stories, and how those stories are shaped by intent and weighed by landscape. Scott speaks of dispossession, abuse, colonialism, addiction and racism in lyrical and melancholy prose. The men and women who walk through these pages are startlingly aware of their failings and equally forgiving of those failings in others. There are no quick fixes and the story vacillates between despair and hope. Yet this is not a grim story. The lucidity of its prose lifts it beyond the despair in its pages and reminds us that there are no perfect words and no easy resolutions to the trials of our First Nations people. An important and devastating story for our times.' (Publication abstract)

'In an old house with ‘too many windows and women’, high in the Indian hills, young Hannah lives with her older sister Gloria; her two older brothers; her mother – the Magician; a colourful assortment of aunts, blow-ins and misfits; and her father – the Historian. It is a world of secrets, jealousies and lies, ruled by the Historian but smoothed over by the Magician, whose kindnesses and wisdom bring homely comfort and all-enveloping love to a ramshackle building that seems destined for chaos.

'And then one day the Magician is gone, Gloria is gone, and the Historian has spirited Hannah and her brothers away to a new and at first bewildering life in Perth. As Hannah grows and makes her own way through Australian life, an education and friendships, she begins to penetrate to the heart of one of the old house’s greatest secrets – and to the meaning of her own existence.' 1 Transnational Women : Narratives of Displacement and Belonging Rashida Murphy , 2016 single work criticism
— Appears in: Narratives of Estrangement and Belonging : Indo-Australian Perspectives 2016; (p. 244-259)

'As an immigrant woman who has lived in Australia for more than 30 years, I am interested in the stories women tell of their experiences of living in a 'safe' country. As a writer, I am intrigued by the response of 'women like me' to fictional representations of our 'selves' and our bi cultural 'belongings. Using the specific responses of a reading group comprised of Indian and Iranian women, this paper shows that the boundaries between analytic and reflexive research are permeable and the researcher also becomes implicated in her own research.'
