BiographyHistory

Robert Officer was a surgeon, politician, anti-transportationalist and member of the Tasmanian Salmon Commission. Having obtained his diploma as a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, England, he emigrated to Tasmania, where he was appointed Government medical officer for New Norfolk. He was knighted in 1869.

After he retired Officer resided near New Norfolk and devoted himself to hop cultivation and salmon acclimatisation, becoming in the process a leading pioneer in both industries.
