Erez Cohen, in his article 'Non-Anglo and Non-Aboriginal Australian Multiculturalism, the Third Side of the Black/White Divide' says that Sarna is a pseudonym and that sarna in Spanish means scabies, 'a metaphor for the itchy reaction readers should have' to the satirical and critical nature of the author's writing (p. 74).

Ignacio Garcia in his work Spanish Fiction Writing in Australia identifies Sarna as a pseudonym of Uriel Barrera. He also notes that Sarna is the author of the column 'Chispazos', which appeared in El Espanol en Australia, beginning in 1983 (pp. 21-22).
